Interview With Hannah
- What is your why and how has it changed?
As a mentor, I ask my mentees a similar question. I think hairdressing can be categorized as three different facets: a service, a creative outlet, and a business. I ask them to rank these three categories in order of importance. For myself, I started doing hair because I wanted to make a career out of a creative outlet. As the years of gone on, the service aspect has kept me going. I love helping people and making my clients feel better about themselves when they look in the mirror.
- What is the most important thing you’ve learned?
The most important thing I’ve learned is that you’re never done. There’s not a point that you feel like you know everything or have checked every box. This industry is constantly evolving. If you don’t make a point to keep changing with it, it will leave you behind. It’s important to keep up with trends, take classes, and stay inspired.
- What has surprised you the most?
What has surprised me the most is the realization that people are all the same. I’ve met so many people through my career. They all come from different walks of life, but deep down, we’re all the same. We’re all just trying to make it through each day to wake up and make it through the next one. Superficially, we all look and sound different, but we’re just human beings.
- What advice would you give New Studio Be Salon Stylists?
“Fail fast.” This line of work is going to knock you down many times. You’re going to make mistakes. You need to swallow your pride, learn from your mistake, and never do it again. You’ll be stronger mentally if you can learn how to not beat yourself up over your shortcomings.
