Food and Drug Administration Announcement

Dry shampoo users, before applying your hair care, make sure to take a closer look at that aerosol can. Unilever has voluntarily recalled several dry shampoo products due to potentially elevated levels of benzene, a human carcinogen, according to an announcement published by the Food and Drug Administration on Friday. The company issued the recall after an internal investigation identified the propellant in the aerosol cans to be the source of the contamination, and has worked with its suppliers to address the issue.

Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen. Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life threatening. Benzene is ubiquitous in the environment.

What Products Are Recalled?

The recalled products include Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI (Rockaholic and Bed Head) and Tresemmé dry shampoo aerosols produced prior to October 2021. The products were distributed throughout the US, and retailers have been notified to remove the shampoos from their shelves.

How We Can Help

At Studio Be Salon we believe the criteria of having a good shampoo and conditioner is that it does not have any harmful or damaging ingredients, but instead uses natural ingredients. Harmful ingredients that should be avoided in shampoos and conditioners include sulfates, parabens, silicones, and isopropyl alcohol amongst many others, which are all damaging and can cause irritation as well as dryness. On the other hand, a good shampoo and conditioner should have ingredients that are good for the hair, which includes essential oils, vitamins, and hydrolyzed proteins. Stop by Studio Be Salon for the best products for your hair.

The products we carry at Studio Be Salon are free of any cancer causing ingredients and safe for all hair types. Don’t be fooled by drug store shampoo and conditioner that make your hair feel extra soft by coating it with harmful waxes and other toxic ingredients. Ask your Studio Be Salon stylist for a recommendation that best suits your needs.
